PERU

Peru is one of the most beautiful and geographically diverse countries I have been. There are three completely different landscape and vegetation zones: costa (coast), sierra (mountains) and selva (tropical rain forest). Traveling in Peru is not very easy and not completely safe, however definitely worth an effort.

COSTA (The Coast)

Costa is a dry, arid region that stretches along the cost of Peru. It receives very little precipitation (if any) and subsequently there is little of vegetation.

Paracas Peninsula was a center spot of Calinar Culture (apart from Chicama Valley near Truhillo in the north). It thrived between 300 BC and 200 AD. This wonderful Candelabra was curved on the northern slopes of the peninsula

Ballestas Islands are located about 10 km off the coast of Paracas. They are inhabited but large colonies of sea lions, penguins and varieties of birds

The famous Pan-American Highway, especially its windy parts is dotted with numerous crosses to commemorate those who died travelling along it. This picture was taken between Ica and Nasca.
