Lake Titicaca - Uros Islands

The floating islands of Uros people are the Puno's area major tourist attractions and unfortunately as a result they have become somewhat overcommercialized. Uros people have mixed with Aymara over centuries and pure blood Uros do not exist anymore. They used to speak their own language but now they speak Aymara. The islands are built of tortora reeds that grow abundantly in the shallows of lake Titicaca. The island are constructed of many layers of reeds and are gradually replaced at the top.
